HOW TO IMPROVE
AS A PARAGLIDING PILOT

Once you have finished your Club Pilot, you have only just started on your flying career. What happens in the months following your CP will have a big impact on how long you remain in the sport. Fortunately there are lots of resources out there to help you make the most of your flying.

Weather

Weather forecasting has improved immeasurably over the last 10 - 15 years, with it now normally possible to know a good 5 days out whether it's going to be flyable and where the best place to be is. Check out our dedicated weather page for more information and a few useful rules of thumb to help you stay safe when you are flying.

Cross Country paragliding

For many, the freedom of escaping the hill and meandering through the sky and not knowing quite where they might land is the very essence of paragliding. Freedom, adventure and the promise of so much more. Find out all you need to know from your first flop over the back to your first 100k and more. (to be done)

Safety

Unfortunately paragliding has a disproportionate share of accidents relative to almost any other sport, yet when you analyse the data - it shows that the vast majority of accidents need never have happened. We've compiled SIV videos, podcasts and some simple information that you can apply to help keep yourself safe.

Schools, Shops & Equipment

There is one local school to the Thames Valley sites, "Cloudbase Paragliding" which offers a wide range of training in the UK as well as overseas trips. If you want to learn abroad or do trips with other outfits, we have compiled a list of options for you.

Pilot Development Support

The Club has a number of incentives to support ongoing pilot development skills. Please refer to the Development Support section under Club Info

Podcasts & Video

We have collated a list of some of the best youtube channels, podcasts and flying videos for you to enjoy and learn from.
