Comments :: Popped up at noon, just 2 of us, to catch a window between still calm and stronger winds forecast for later. It never really came right so had lots of handling practice and just 2 tiny flights, one from the southern face and left before 3.

Comments :: Arrived at 2pm with Tony Lewis and Chris Williams. The wind was wnw but a little light to soar very well. Earlier there had been some hefty showers in the area. Once these had moved away the wind came more on the hill and we had some quite good soaring flights. 100' ato and some thermals marked by sea gulls . At 4pm everything went dead....... Good afternoon for ground handling, takeoffs and landings.

Comments :: WSW wind, about 10 - 14 mph when I got there at 3.00pm, and sunny with small cumulus, but only small broken thermals low down. Spent about 45 mins of pleasant PG flying in the sunshine, at about ridge hight and up to 100' above, and some forays out over the fields when the thermals allowed it. The wind and lift suddenly died at about 4.15.

Comments :: Goodness the diary has gone mad in our absence abroad - great to hear that summer came all at once and shame we missed it. But a brilliant week at Hotel California with Tim, Lee & Michelle, Coxy, RichF, Gav & Helen, Griff, ChrisH and Matt, then briefly Pablo & Jane. What a wonderful area to fly and lovely place to stay with Dirk & Tracy - thoroughly lived up to expectations. 15 flights, several hours, plenty of up-diddly-ups and entertainment, and lots of improvement (well, there was room in my case!) Highly recommended as a fabulous destination and we're already planning for next year.

Comments :: A couple of hours soaring on this beautiful site on the Isle of Wight. There were only 5 of us there experiencing some light thermals wafting through. Wonderful views across the downs to the sea cliffs on the south of the island. Flyable the following day too... now back at work... sadly... all good things come to an end...

Comments :: Late afternoon visit to MWHorse was rewarded with simple but pleasant soaring session with Paul and Vince (looked like a Gradient display team). That's two evenings on the trot, and at the weekend, where was everybody. On Sat evening, flying with Sue and Andrew, I managed to get right to the road at the Eastern end of the ridge and back for the first time in non thermic conditions. For the record, Lyneham was showing 8mph South on both days and on the hill it was SSW on Sat and SSE at 12mph.

Comments :: After a very sad start to the day as I said goodbye to my boat, texted Paul and Kay S to find they were heading down to Ringstead. As I had foolishly not taken my kit with me, they saved the day by offering me to lend me the lot. Got to Ringstead but the wind was light and sea fog had drifted in so headed to Kimmeridge. Although off to the south, I had a lovely half hour along the western part of the ridge chucking Kay's Makalu around (great fun!)The scenery and weather was breathtaking. Thanks to both Paul and Kay for both good company and lending me their wings.

Comments :: A very gloomy day with low cloud covering nearby hills, but the Great Orme itself was remarkably clear. Had about 20 minutes pleasant boating about in light lift all to myself before it dropped off. Perfectly timed for Lunch.

Comments :: My best day ever at Sugar! Good company - only six flyers on the hill. Almost the whole of this long ridge working, with mellow thermals breaking off the fields in front, especially to the south of the track. Lots of hawks and gulls soaring on thermals up to 1200' ato. Best direction for this hill seems to be just south of south west. The season is still alive and kicking!

Comments :: Congratulations to Mike Hibbit (23km) and Richard Bungay (55km) on their recent epic XC's. Not escaping from the hill until 3:10pm, Richard's flight on 8th October is certainly one of the best ever flown in the UK at this time of year! We continue to push the boundaries!!

Comments :: Looked as though it could be promising _ all the "big names" seemed to have turned up. By 1.30 not alot had happened so there was a mass exodus to another site.... which left me and a few others to carry on trudging up the hill after a short flights down ! I was surprised when I got home at 4 to see that Lyneham had had 8mph WNW winds during the afternoon cos I never experienced them !!!

Comments :: Took the day off on this glorious day. The winds were light but managed a couple of hours of soaring with some light thermals wafting through. In the afternoon it became so crowded that it verged on dangerous - I landed as many pilots appeared to be flying with their eyes closed. But a very enjoyable day - far better than the office!

Comments :: PLAN A: It had been a very windy day, so I set off late afternoon for a couple of hours kite buggying at my local site. On arrival I found the wind had eased dramatically so...... PLAN B:With my paraglider in the car, I set off for a twenty minute journey to the hills. Two guys were flying model gliders in the ever decreasing wind. I set up and took off in my slimmed down light weight harness to be rewarded with half an hours superb soaring before it got dark. Great!

Comments :: After a short XC from an 'unofficial' westerly site, Mark Jones and I decided everywhere else was blown out so ended up at Liddington. There we found Tim G packing up declaring the conditions not 100% safe. The wind seemed light enough and vaguely on the hill, so Mark and I flew for a while. There were some thermals coming through but they were very rough indeed; I almost committed over the back in a particularly strong up-down 'climb' but chickened out. Around 3.30 the wind went more westerly and slackened, and the sky was filling in and going showery. So we took off to fly down, only to be picked up and carried backwards along the hill by what seemed like a gust front, though the only cu-nims were some way away. Glad to both be down safely, we struggled to pack up in a howling gale and went home. Looks like the last XC day of the season.
