Comments :: Wife's away, so I managed an 11 hour day at Milk - fantastic. Quite sporty at times but never quite enough height to warrant leaving the hill, conditions calmed down in the evening. Thousands of (presumably non ins topped up) pilots on Rybury with half a dozen hot shots going xc. BTW, are non topped up pilots allowed to overfly Milk or must they fly round LOL.

Comments :: A hard day for me(good for x lakes training, Bob)with plenty of up hill walking. Virtually no wind ,just thermic stuff. Unfortunately not as skilled as Charles Norwood and co. who left the hill(how do they do that!?) while I was trying to bring my wing up straight...! Thanks to Andrew Larkins for his advice.

Comments :: A bit too gusty to fly between 9.30 and 10.30. Then things settled down but flying was rather an up and down ride until 12 when there was lots of lift. Packed up mid afternoon when wind was too strong and sky was darkening. Accompanied by Fi in the morning then Ian Pepper, Andy Rudd and Sion (?) the latter two both on tandems.

Comments :: the plan was to sky out and try to cross the big valley behind without fallng into any sea-/valley-breeze. 3 of us got thro the upper inversion layer around 1k8m and up to 2k5m. took this over peaks to E but lift disorganised and punchy. fell into lower region below 1km, pushed away from rotor, survived a few collapses and landed after 2hours. :)

Comments :: Interesting day. Took off floated around a bit. Bit strong so landed. Took off again. Bit difficult to get forward but eversomuch lift everywhere so sat about til a bit below the clouds. No GPS so unsure about airspace. Watched two gliders at Rybury. Waited for them to climb out so I could follow. Increasing wind finally made me run downwind for a landing just as gliders cruised over. DOH. Being flown around, over and under by a heli, then a small plane, then a microlight was odd.

Comments :: I found it a gusty today with strong little disorganised climbs. I pushed out front where Ian Pepper had marked some good lift earlier I climbed and left the hill around 11.00 but struggled to maintain anything decent over the back and bombed out around 2.5k. As soon as I got back to a howling gale I saw Al and co climbing above us. They looked like they were doing well. Sky looked amazing today.

Comments :: Windy, rough well off to the south and horrible on the hill - Tim and I were about to give up when we climbed out around 1pm to around 3.5k, well short of base, and then bombed near Ogbourne after a bad decision. Adrian Thomas scraped away later in a howling gale for 60k to just short of Oxford.

Comments :: Endevoured to get airbourne into the same thermal I saw as I got out of the car (birds wizzing up, v little drift) - would have managed it - 5 minutes from locking the car to pulling up the glider - but for a pesky tangle - had to make do with the tail end - Not hard or cool! Much swearing. Mostly in shadow after that. NE, went round N, but only generally 3-5 kts. 2 further climbs to 500' ATO, but couldn't break higher. Had the place all to myself, but I was desperate to make up for lost ground after a week of CBs and wind in Laragne.

Comments :: With a forecast of very light winds I thought a walk up to Chinnor ridge from home would be good practise for X Lakes and I planned to fly home, got there just in time to miss the last good cycle and then waited for a bit of sun for ages, spent 20 mins trying to get a good climb out and then slithered down the hill, no decent breaks in the top cover and no wind so a long walk home, only about 20 miles walk (5 hours!)with the glider on my back, enough for one day anyway! Now if it wasn't for the massive blisters I would be super fit!

Comments :: A nice fly after work, little strong and really a little too north for Chinnor but ok once I got around the corner into the northerly bowl, could be described as rough to start with but calmed down to nice and smooth after a hour or so, spent must have been over 20 mins with out touching the breaks trying to get photo's of the Red Kites on the ridge, had one right on the wing tip but couldn't get the camera out in time! Could have flown until dark but things to do, nice run up the hill to finish it off, all good practise for X Lakes.

Comments :: A great weekend and thanks to both Mark Ford and Gerrit for being BCC team captains. Both days were flown at the site and a prettier place I have yet to find.. Both days were flown under epic looking skies but the thermals were not very strong. Flew nearly 8 hours over the two days but didn't get away. Got one thermal to 5000 but the drift was negligable so pushed out front over Bluith Wells. Nearly everyone got away so I had a very empty hill to play with. Don't think this was the idea and next time will make a better effort.

Comments :: Got to hill about 11 to find lots there but no flying, I took off just behind a guy on a Mantra and we had the hill to ourselves for a while, bit lumpy and difficult to get good height so used the time to play at low tricky saves as practise for X Lakes, it got very lumpy mid afternoon but still with a lid on things so decided to leave the hill in a slow but steady climb, got a whole 8K! got back in time for a nice hours fly round just in shorts and tee shirt then home for tea, plenty of flying for me over the weekend, Al Rosser got loads in to, well done that man:-)

Comments :: Arrived 2pm as it looked blown out earlier, to find a few pilots in the sky and a radio ham tent set up next to the Gibbet. Hill was relatively uncrowded and wind was fairly strong - making for a 'as much flying as you want' kind of day. Some strong thermals coming through although it did feel fairly rough, limiting me to an hour and a bit in the air. Chris J and Sean S reached Andover. The radio hams managed to reach Scotland with their microwave gear. People were still being microwaved in flight as I left at 6.

Comments :: Just to add to Al's post, I was in that group that got away but no way as far as Brighton (well done!!); I was last to climb out from the hill but made steady progress to join the others briefly; we seperated after the first climb and I glided on a little downwind and picked up my 2nd climb shortly. Saw the gradient tandem heading my way with the others joining us and that's where I lost the climb; can't really rationalise what happened but pilot error put me on the ground between the A34 and the A343 around 12km. Where did the other guys get too? I watched them climb and drift way over me into the distance. Nice day and well done

Comments :: An up-and-down day at Combe started out unconvincingly but eventually came good, with Tim G making Worthing beach (around 100k) on the tandem and a few others getting away for decent distances. Base 4000-4500'. I climbed out too early, making 4k, and arrived back at the hill too late - bugger. Still, lots of interesting (eg a bit rough) thermalling, fading out to buoyant soaring later in the day. Hill looking especially lovely after all this rain, bright yellow with buttercups.

Lovely smooth conditions if a bit grey and damp, bottom landed so I could get some more training in for X Lakes running up the hill, could have flown longer but off to see Mr Ford in his latest block buster, left Rob enjoying the smooth conditions.

Comments :: BCC round SE Wales, very light conditions on Saturday with almost complete cloud cover, about a hour or so of flyable conditions, a handful got slowly away, I was 30 seconds too late to the only reasonable thermal of the day. Sunday was on Pandy with even lighter conditions and more cloud still, short bursts of flying for some, I made it to the North end of Pandy and back to the quarry before landing actually in the quarry and long walk back in the rain. Still a fun weekend and good practice of the X Lakes.
