Comments :: A very pleasant evening's soaring for a dozen or so of us. Heard that many had got away earlier in the day - should have taken the day off work after all! Beautiful combination of sunset and moonrise, with the headlights of the combine harvesters lancing through the gathering darkness. Oh, and I found a watch in the car park at about 5pm, so e-mail me a description if you think it might be yours....

Comments :: Arrived at 6pm having spent the weekend down at Rhossili( not flyable). Gerrit and John T packing up. Wind smack on 12-16 mph. Good soaring over trees with only 4 or 5 guys. Wind went light so light weight harness and the brilliant U Turn Obsession allowed me to soar in next to no wind! Two hot air ballons driffted very slowly towards the hill as a slight increase in wind strength enabled me to soar close to one of them and exchange greetings. Magic! Sue and Andy Brough arrived and Sue flew her Mistral. Wind stayed good till 8.30 as I packed up in stengthening northerly!!

Comments :: After a bit of mincing about on the ridge in the morning, got away after lunch in a weak climb to 800+m ato. Was joined in the same lift by Andy Edwards who eventually caught up with me. Drifted with the lift over the back and got several more climbs up to base at 1100+m ato. Flew down towards Andover, then turned SE away from the airspace. Eventually landed at Stoke Charity near Micheldever as we ran out of airmap! 27.3km. Not exactly record breaking stuff, but very nice all the same. Definitely my best ever flight from CG. Endured a 3 mile walk out to the main road only to find the Waggon & Horses pub was closed, so no celebratory ale to be had. Was very kindly retrieved later by Rich Ford. Thanks mate! We'll do the same for you one day! Peachy!

Comments :: Once again took off and got away almost immediatly, learned from yesterdays Southampton airspace issues so set off in a more easterly direction, only to get stuck for lift and have to stick with a very weak climb over a manor house to the west of Whitchurch which drifted me once again towards the east end of Southampton airspace. Tried to track east but things had filled in and nothing was working. Landed in the exact same field in Micheldever 28k away as the day before, 5 yds away!!! I couldn't have done that if I'd tried. Came back to the hill for a relight @ 3.30 Got back up to base over the back with Mr's Pepper and Ford but Ian saw a pub so landed by it, Rich and myself had to follow as it looked nice but early retrieve stopped play. 6.17K

Comments :: Took off from Combe at just after 12 and took one of the few chances to get away, straight over the back in weak lift, then found some lift after much hunting around and climbed out to cloudbase as the less lucky ones bombed out. Toook several more climbes to base but each took me closer to the eastern end of Southamptons airspace, landed in Micheldever 28K.

Comments :: The wind was always off to the North East all day. When I arrived at mid-day, the rain showers were passing through and the wind quite light. Met Mike H who was heading home after he made friends with a haystack that seemed to have grown in the landing field. After 13:00 wind picked up and the lift became broken and lumpy with gusts blowing through. I had about 20 minutes in the air (although another pilot, Peter, managed about an hour.)Wasn't a great deal of fun to be honest but I just wanted to get a flight in at Combe before the end of the year, hope there may be something better coming soon! Only 2 left weeks to go :-(

Comments :: Had a horrendous drive down to the south coast with all the traffic congestion and went to look at Ringstead, no sea breeze so popped over to White Horse near Weymouth. Met up with an old school mate of mine, who just happens to be the Wessex club sites officer. Fairly light winds but got a bit of airtime scratching about and catching the small thermals which were coming through. Later the wind dropped off and went too far west to use so drove over to St Aldhelm's head. What a fantastic site! Boated about above the sheer cliffs enjoying the scenery in the evening sun and flying with the sea gulls. Finished off the day nicely with a pint and a pasty in the pub in Worth Matravers. Not much flying time had, but well worth the initial horrendous journey.

Comments :: Arrived approx 5:30pm, after work, nice defined small but flat cu's and plenty of sun (and plenty of gliders in the air). Launched and headed for the trees. Found a decent thermal after 15mins or so, went to base at 1600m QFE (approx.6000ft amsl) with two other gliders. Drift was slow, and i didn't fancy going over the back this late in the day so pushed forward to centre of Hungerford, finding plenty of lift on the way. Arrived there with at least 4500ft...then wasn't too sure what to do next. Don't have a GPS tracklog so couldn't be bothered with a triangle. Just la-la'd around, very high, for what seemed like ages whilst drifting back to coombe. Lift stopped about 7:30; I landed on the hill in flat calm at 8:00. More of that please!

Comments :: Arrived at about 9am, to nil winds. A light westerly developed, so tried Rybury - but wind soon backed, so over to Milk. About an hour of exciting flying, reaching 600 ft ato, until midday, when it became too exciting (gusty and strong winds). Waited until about 3pm, but lost patience, so left it to the hangie who was setting up.
