Comments :: As Al Wilson says below, another excellent day at the Gibbet. Arrived about 11and it was well flyable althouugh a bit punchy and very very crowded in close-to-the-hill thermals! Some people arrived mid afternoon only to leave a couple of hours later because the wind had died and veered to the east. By 5.30-6.00pm the ridge started working again and some pleasant ridge soaring was enjoyed by the 9 or10 flyers still on the hill. wind died again about 7.00pm. Two balloons drfted over the hill. They must have had interesting landings as a fresh westerly with lashing rain set in as we left at about 7.30!

Comments :: After chasing the wind around Wiltshire (it was E at Liddington!), ended up at Westbury mid afternoon to see several pg's and hg's in the air, some with good height. Wind on take-off was 'top-end' but after 3 attempts, managed a successful launch. Sky was quite crowded at times although someone managed a flight over the town and Mrs Westbury managed to get out over the chimney and back. Landed after half an hour or so to warm up, only to find the wind on t/o had picked up to well over 20mph. Waited for a lull which never came, nobody was able to take off again although one bloke tried, got trashed, and nearly put his wing in the tree, so we ended the day's activities packing up the gliders in the rain. Can't fault it!

Comments :: The day started out looking great and the first gliders in the sky were already getting hoofed up to good heights at 10.30. We played with the numerous friendly thermals for an hour until the clouds began to spread and the sunshine began to disappear. At this stage Adrian, Jon Collie and Ian Clague disappeared over the back, Adrian making 50k past Salisbury despite the unpromising sky. Kicking myself for not going with them, I took the next scrotty little bubble and was left with a 10k walk. By the time I was back at the hill another gaggle of 3 or 4 had left - wonder where they got to? Leaving the hill at 3 it was still flyable in cycles. Another lovely Combe day.

Comments :: Arrived 11ish to find some other mid-week skivers (Pete Malon and Kirsty) about to walk up the hill. Reasonable breeze, little lift. A few others joined us, and the air became more buoyant in the afternoon. After 2:00 pm the high cloud finally moved out the way, and the one good thermal of the day came through. Three of us ended up in it and very slowly climbed up to the inversion. Attempting to follow Jim Mallinson soon had me back on terra firma to the east of Golden Ball, and watched as he slowly disappeared, far into the distance. Pilots were still flying at Rybury late afternoon, as viewed from the Barge Inn beer garden. A beautiful sunny May day.

Comments :: Got there shortly after 11 when the first N-ish cycle breathed up and the other waiters started walking out front. Strongest 'winds' all afternoon were over the back co-inciding with beautiful activity in the crop in the field in front. So, despite it looking like clockwise thermals were ripping off, it was impossible to launch and get over the wandering trigger point/s. The most promising attempt to fly to a thermal marked by birds far out towards the diamond only gave 2.5 turns worth of lift. The cloud shadows were drifting mainly to the NW. The dozen frustrated pilots slowly gave up on the day. Weird air - I stayed on the ground. :(

Comments :: Wind was all over the place today, so decided on a day at Middle Wallop to get towed up. Not an epic day but at least got airborne for a while. Accompanied by Ken Hammond, Paul and Kay Sayers Paul Hamilton and For a short while Chris Hines who got the best lift of the day. Just to add it would have been an excellent day for PPG Training ;-

Comments :: Great sky but too windy! Arrived about 5.30 to see Kirsty aiborne. Pete Malon and I joined her for an hour and a halfs soaring. Thermals about but growing weaker along with the wind. Three other flyers turned up, but only one had a decent flight. Mackeral sky at end of the day before quick drink at the pub.

Comments :: Got to Liddington at about 18:30 to see Mr Bungay bouncing across the sky. not the smoothest of conditions. Wind also dropping. slightly NNW maybe. ground handled and flew for about 30 min then decided to pack up. then watched Mr B and Mr P get above take off in probably the smoothest and liftiest 12min of the evening. unexpected and nice way to end a working day.

Comments :: After persistent fresh easterlies for two weeks the spell was finally broken and a light northerly set in. Quite strong early morning then well soarable. Although overcast, thermal activity was supprisingly good until about 2pm when the sun broke through and the wind dropped! We then had a three hour window with regular but short lived cycles. Those of us lucky enough to get up high found an inversion about 1700' ato, but some really nice upwind thermals. Two sailplanes got a low save over Inkpen and drifted in towards the ridge coloured with limp canopies and pilots parawaiting. Day finnished about 5pm with a light north easterly breeze. Roll on the north westerlies!
