Comments :: Great afternoon flying. Got to Site about 10.30 am and there were two gliders already in the air. They were looking good, there was a window where the wind stopped gusting so i took off. Half dozen below us on site below looking at each other to decide who was to be the next wind dummy. Best flight for me to date at milk with 1 hour 47mins. Paul hutton landed halfway up the slopw and i landed to his left, out of the stronger gusts. brilliant flight and even got some pictures of the others in flight. Two hanggliders were flitting around enjoying the day as well.

Comments :: Great afternoon. Got to Site about 11 am and there were two gliders already in the air. They were looking good but it felt a little strong for take off. Half dozen of us on site looking at each other to decide who was to be the next wind dummy. Just below hangy's take off was still strong so l walked about 100 ft towards the car park where the wind was a bit calmer and took off followed by a couple of others. First flight was not that good but second flight, brilliant, totalling just over hour and half. There was wave about and myself Dave Stone and Bob Johnston had a job getting down, even pushing out from the hill l was still maintaining height. Eventually bob spiralled down l big eared down and Dave managed a slope landing a little later. Two hanggliders were flitting around enjoying the day as well.

Comments :: We started flying at 1100, wind measured S 14mph on the hill, S 9mph recorded at Lyneham. Cruised ridge for about 3 hours till wind picked up too much (gusting 22 on hill, 12 at Lyneham). Without thermals, this hill seems to need 14mph to be able to maintain ridge height, but as wind increases you don't gain much more lift, but it obviously just gets more difficult to take off and land without risking a dragging. Must be the shallow shape of the hillside! PS, does anyone know what those rather inconveniant grass covered mounds, that litter the take off area, are??

Comments :: One of the great Winter flying days! 1000 ft.ATO. 2 and a half hours quality airtime. Later AW, GG and PL arrived. Post CF conditions - smooth, though fairly weak thermals. Almost went XC. Modellers arrived to share the hill. Lady came up walking her dog and asked how she could learn! Passed on PA's contact details. At the end of the day( 4PM) PL got talking to the modellers and was told that the big bad W no longer lives at the base of the hill!!!!

Comments :: Best day's flying I've ever had at Rybury! Turned up with 3 gliders flying in light conditions. Wallace and Ken were kind enough to act as a sacrifice to the wind gods (by leaving the hill). 5 minutes later it picked up and 6 of us flew for the rest of the day. No great height gains, but just nice to fly again! At one stage Paravion were flying at Ruddler's West (out front), we were flying Rybury and other's were flying at Milk. An amazing sight after all the rubbish weather of the last few months.

Comments :: Fabulous winter day with a good couple of hours soaring at Rybury. Started off light and got stronger later. Could also see gliders on Milk and Ruddler's West. A large group of kids turned up and pretended to be injured on the hill. It didn't take long to figure out they were practicing first aid and there was no need to land. They didn't get to put their skills to use on falling paraglider pilots, thankfully.

Comments :: Cracking cold clear crisp day with weak blue thermals. Leisurely cruising around in the sky, over the golf club, Cheltenham and back to take-off. Winter doesn't imply stop flying. Enjoy the company of like minded people. PS. Keep challenging your personal limitations/ weaknesses

Comments :: OK so it's not our site, but I thought I would put in a diary entry anyway. Looking at the wind speed and direction this morning I thought that it may be working better in the East than in the West and as there were no emails from any club members saying they intended to fly, thought I would head to Devil's Dyke where I knew I wouldn't be flying alone! Beautiful day with wind gradually strengthening to provide good height above take-off. Lots of wings in the air but were spread out right to Truleigh so never much of an issue. Surprisingly thermic for this time of year. Managed to get an hour and half of good flying in with fantastic views. Could have had even more flying but wanted to get home to get some work finished (serves me right for having a scive day.)Had to drive away with the sky full - that hurts!!!
