Comments :: A few of us turned up to fly Rybury / Milk White Horse as the forecasts were looking good. The wind was too much for Rybury and it was quite strong if not marginal on the 'nose' behind, but we all persisted and had a good time. Conditions were somewhat bouncy with small thermals blowing through, but nothing any of us could catch to a decent, get-away-able height. A fun work-out and good active-flying practice.

Comments :: Eventually got to Milk at 6.30 after a hour or so of wind chasing, although Wendy said it was NW when I got to the bottom of Combe there was smoke drifting along the ridge so it looked almost due west. Stopped at Liddington where there was two guys hopping around in little lift in a WNW wind so went on to Milk. Although the wind had a touch of North in it Milk was nice and smooth, boated around for 15 minutes or so and then got the tandem out and gave the GF a nice flight until we had to top land to stop the cows eating my solo glider. A nice evening:-)

Comments :: Another windy day but popped up Chinnor hoping the wind would drop in the evening, it did but 10 minutes or so after I took off it dropped too light and down I went, still it was flyable for a while.

Comments :: Hmmm. Just 2 of us were daft enough to give combe a go this avo despite the strong westerly winds forecast, so we roped Jamie in too. It felt strong on the hill but there were lulls and it pulled NW on occasion, and the streeting towards Basingstoke looked epic enough for us to remain hopeful. After tricky launches there was very little lift when airborne though we each maintained for a few beats before slope landing. When it calmed down a bit we played around on the ground a while then beat a retreat homewards when it went a bit SW! Fun to be out on the hill all the same, especially knowing today (or perhaps wednesday?) could be combe's last until next season.

Comments :: Arrived Saturday with Mick Sylvester at 12.00 to almost perfect windspeed at Combe but was gradually backing to West and on taking off, even the Western End of Combe lacked any form of lift. Packed up quickly and headed for Milk via Par Avion (unfortunately closed) Had picked up a convoy on the way and arrived en-mass at Milk by 3.00. Fine by top car park but was very strong on hill. A pilot who followed us from Combe (a pilot of whom I have never met but should have asked a lot more questions about) treated us to a flying display that included many stunts including a full frontal collapse at low level, a high speed descent and landing with big ears in and an interesting take off with a crevatte in his wing. The subsequent crash landing and plunge down the steep slope was entertaining. With CuNmbs building and passing and the subsequent cloud suck, we all stayed firmly grounded but had some interesing parawaiting discussions. I never got a chance to chat to our kamikaze stunt pilot. If you are reading this, my wife says that when you arrived back at the cars, you were interested to find out from us why you experienced the frontal collapse. The first thing is that the wind was too strong and gusty and you should never have taken off. Also the wind had some North in it and high up you were OK but that low down you were flying in rotor. I know you told the girls you had no fear, but to someone you must be dear and I don't want to witness any more deaths or injuries so please go and fly on a trip with a qualified instructor/guide and get some advice on your flying skills.

Comments :: It's nice to get a local flight with in 10 mins drive of home, nice evening flight on the Chinnor ridge after the wind dropped a bit, watched the sun set from the air and then top landed and went home, what a nice end to a hard day:-)

Comments :: Arrived at the end of a blowy day at about 5:30pm. After a quick chat with the only other pilot, decided to get to the front to see what it was like. After 10 minutes, realised it was getting to light almost. Took off just as a few others turned up. Nice float for 20 minutes then landed. Out front a big cloud system came over and it got quite light. I waited it out and try again 20 minutes later. I was rewarded with some good lift at at 1500 feet ATO went with it. Thats when it went ballistic. Cores were at 1100fpm, strongest I have had all year. At +2300 feet, strong inversion and no more height. Drifted with what I had and repeated the trick a few km later [strong core, inversion]. Wind shifted off to NE, and a landed at about 7:30pm. Wow what an end to the day

Comments :: Frustrating day with zero wind and only 3 or 4 weak cycles all day. Fun was had by some when these came through lasting less than 10 minutes. By 5.30, after most flyers had gone, the wind picked up from the NW and several pilots got rewarded for waiting. Myself, Mark on his Cage, and one other pilot enjoyed about an hours soaring in a very plesant mix of dynamic, thermal and restitutional lift over the trees.

Comments :: Got to the hill late (about 7pm) so thought I'd missed out. Got a nice 30mins or so boating around in weak lift but it does make it challenging. Apparently it had been like that for most of the day although a couple of pilots had got away. Who? Distance?
