LAT Weather

It looks like there is a reasonable chance of some flying this weekend but there is a small possibility of a bit of rain.

Saturday – almost certainly SW so Milk Hill or Sugar.

Sunday – generally from the S but could go to SE or SW. If its SW then Milk or Sugar again, If S then Milk or the whole ridge to Tan, if SE then Tan.

Remember, Milk requires you to have the £5m insurance top up, you can’t land on the spur above the barn or in the bowl next to it, the warnings/restrictions at Tan but this should be OK for LAT pilots at this time of year.

LAT Weather

Well it looks like another fine weekend but once again with light winds, this will tend to favour the big sites in Wales. The actual wind directions are not certain at present and forecasts seem to be changing slightly as the weekend approaches but it looks generally S’ly on Sat and N’ly on Sun.

Saturday – if it is as forecast and is S’ly then Talybont is once again likely to offer the best options. More locally Mere might offer something.

Sunday – The Blorenge should cover most of the N’ly options from NW to NE. Again more locally Westbury is likely to be the best bet.

Do check the wind directions nearer the time, they could end up from almost anywhere.

Have fun

LAT 20/21 september 2008 / Wales trip Print
Wednesday, 17 September 2008

Hi All

Early LAT weather foreast for this weekend.

It looks like there will be a lightish generally easterly airflow but good conditions.

This means that there is not much chance of anything in the TVHGC region.

As this is possibly one of the better and last weekends for some serious flying this year I am planning on spending the weekend in Wales camping at Kevin's farm in Llangattock.

If anyone fancies joining me for one or both days please post a reply and we will see if we can get a bit of a club trip together.

I will see if we can get a few of the coaches to come over and we can make it a joint LAT coaching and XC coaching weekend for the more xperienced pilots looking for their 1st XCs.

campsite details:

The campsite is at Park Farm, Llangattock near Crickhowell (OS Grid Ref: SO 214 173).

Do not attempt to use the campsite in Crickhowell itself as you are likely to be thrown off!

directions: From the A4077 turn off into the village of Llangattock which is on the opposite side of the river to Crickhowell.

at the Horseshoe Inn turn left and follow the track down over the cattle grid and then over the stream into the main camping area.

Park Farm

Hope to see you this weekend.

LAT WEATHER

Looks like a chance of some flying this weekend. Although we are under the influence of two high pressure regions we (and some weak fronts) are being squeesed between them so it is likely to be rather cloudy with light winds. Both days look like the TVHGC area is going to offer the best possibilities.

Sat - light NW winds. Liddington will probably be the best bet. You could head over to SEW (Blorenge) for something bigger but the sky will probably not be so good.

Sun - slightly stronger winds but from the SE. Not the best direction for our sites for low airtime pilots. If you are reasonably experienced Tan should be OK if there are some Coaches there to look after you and check conditions on the day.

If not SEW and Pandy or Blorenge might be OK but again the better sky will be over this area. Best bet is check the wind direction/strengths in the morning and the state of the sky and make up your minds froim there.

Cheers

Update.

Hi. If the weather goes as forecast and per Richard's email there are a couple more possibilities for LAT pilots.

Sat - Avon's Westbury site is a good reliable site for a NW (takes WNW - NNE), but please read their site guide. Especially about where you can and can not land. I'm planning to head over there tomorrow.

Sun - If it is a SE then Mere Rifle Range (another Avon site) offers an 'easier' option to Tan. Although it is a fair distance away and does get blown out easily. So only consider it if the wind is less than 10mph.

Hope this helps!

 LAT Weather

Looks like there may be a bit of a break in the bad weather we have been having for this weekend.

Sat – reasonably light SE’ly winds, not the best direction for TVHGC sites. Tan might be possible for more experienced LAT pilots but make sure you read the sites guide about restrictions on experience etc. Mere, an Avon site is probably more suitable for very low air time pilots, if you intend to visit make sure you check the Avon sites guide and seek advice when you get there.

Sun – increasing westerly wind bringing some rain on a cold front. Could be some flying beforehand probably Milk.

please also note:

Rybury is temporarily closed due to perceived over usage of the site recently for paragliding by the owner.

Please refrain from flying the site whilst the club works to seek a resolution to this issue.
